Packing lists are always a touchy subject, since they only summarize equipment decisions and not individuals, their experiences, constitution, and preferences. Nevertheless, they can be a helpful inspiration for your own list. We have tried a lot out and learned a lot on our short and long tours and adventures while testing our first bikepacking bags. This is our basic equipment for an overnight stay:
Kitchen:
- Sharp knife
- Spork
- Titanium pan cup
- Small cooker with fuel
- Lighter
- Magnesium fire starter
- 2 packets of fragrance-free facial tissues
- Emergency ration (Chinese noodle soup, chocolate bar)
- 1 litre of water more than you actually think you will need
- Instant coffee, powdered milk, sugar
- Coffee filter
- Among other things, a cooking grill, grill lighter, food for grilling, aluminium foil, cutting board, and folding saw
Bathroom:
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Small package of moist wipes*
- Small bottle of hand disinfectant*
- Small tube of moisturising cream*
- Disposable nail file (source: hotel business trip)
- Toilet supplies
* = Travel sizes available at any drugstore
Pharmacy:
- First-Aid Kit
- Personal medication
- 6 salt tablets
- 4 packets of magnesium
- Emergency ration of painkillers
Tools:
- Multitool
- Tyre lever
- Miniature pump with adapter for the petrol station
- Two spare tyres
- Chain oil
- Chain lock
- Shift cable
- Bike repair kit incl. tube and tyre patches
- Brake pads and a small box of screws if necessary
- Tubeless valve and tubeless fluid if necessary
Cycling clothes:
- According to the weather plus one layer (which also ensures warmth in the evening at camp)
Camp clothes:
- Light down or Primaloft jacket
- Light shorts
- Buff
Bedroom:
- Sleeping bag
- Insulation mat
- Tarpaulin or bivouac bag
- Mat underlay, if the mat is not in the bivouac bag
- Headlamp and spare batteries
- 5 litre watertight dry bag as a sleeping bag safe for valuables
- Clothes for the night, if necessary (merino underwear, buff, socks)

- Wallet
- Mobile phone & charging cable
- Powerbank
- GPS device and spare batteries

- Compass
- Camera if necessary
